3 Etiquette Tips for Wedding Guests

Planning a wedding can be overwhelming with all of the elements that go into it, especially if you’re planning a wedding in a prime destination such as Newport, Rhode Island. There are factors to consider such as the venue, catering, photography, and transportation. To ease the stress on the bride and groom, here are a few etiquette tips wedding guests should take into consideration.

R.S.V.P. in a timely fashion

When you receive an invite to a wedding, make note of the R.S.V.P. date and don’t let the invite get lost on the coffee table. Make sure to respond as soon as you can especially if you plan on getting accommodations; hotels in Newport fill up fast during wedding season! If you must cancel, let the bride and groom know no later than two weeks prior, don’t add to their stress by procrastinating.

Transportation

Getting around Newport may be tough during the summer season, especially if you are not familiar with the area. Most likely in cases where parking is limited and expensive, the couple will provide guests with transportation to and from the ceremony. Ensure you know the time and location of where you will be picked up so you don’t miss the wedding!

The Ceremony and Reception

It’s ideal that you arrive to the site of the ceremony 30 minutes before it begins. If you do arrive early, quietly seat yourself in the back. It’s polite to follow the family members in the front when it comes to sitting and standing. After the recession of the bride and groom, check if there is a receiving line post ceremony. This is your chance to congratulate the new couple and chat with them for a few minutes. If the receiving line is scheduled post-ceremony, find out where your transportation is to the reception. The reception gives you the chance to chat with the other guests and mingle. If you’re questioning how long you should stay at the reception, you should at least stay until the cake has been cut. Before departing the reception, ensure you say goodbye to a member of the couple’s immediate family and thank them. Find out where your transportation will be picking you up.
